A formal application must be made on behalf of the employee to the Ghana Immigration Service. However, an individual who is married to a Ghanaian may be issued a residence permit without applying for a work permit. In the rest of this article, we will discuss the requirements and processes involved in obtaining a residence permit for an individual who is married to a Ghanaian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-is-responsible-for-the-issue-of-residence-permits\">Who is responsible for the issue of residence permits?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/home.gis.gov.gh\/\">Ghana Immigration Service<\/a> &nbsp;is the government agency that is responsible for the issue of all immigration permits to foreign nationals. This reduces the chances of immigration declining the application. This is because some foreign nationals may want to get married to a Ghanaian with the sole motive of acquiring a residence permit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-long-does-it-take-to-acquire-a-residence-permit\">How long does it take to acquire a residence permit?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The process of acquiring a residence permit takes up to two weeks. This is attainable if the documents submitted to the Immigration Service are all accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-long-is-the-permit-valid\">How long is the permit valid?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First-time applicants can only apply for a one-year permit. A residence permit only allows an individual to live in the country legally.
